Modernising Existing Aluminium Frames Without The Cost Of Full Replacement
Refurbs was appointed to transform the existing aluminium curtain walling and window frames at 2 Evelyn Street using a specialist spray-applied coating system. The refurbishment provided the building with a contemporary new appearance while extending the lifespan of the existing aluminium framework and avoiding the significant cost of replacement.

Refurbs delivered an excellent transformation of the building. The finish exceeded our expectations, communication was first class throughout, and the project was completed professionally with minimal disruption to the site.

Project Challenges and Solutions
Different access conditions
The two elevations required different access methods. One side allowed a MEWP, while the other could not be reached using ladders under the site rules. The team used IPAF-certified MEWP access where suitable and a mobile access tower on the restricted side, keeping the works compliant and practical.
Preparation before coating
The aluminium frames needed to be thoroughly cleaned before spraying so the coating could bond properly. A reach-and-wash system with RO water was used to remove dirt and surface contamination without slowing the programme.
Public-facing location
Because the property sits in a busy urban setting, the work had to be managed around nearby foot traffic. Exclusion zones, tidy working areas and low-odour coating methods helped reduce disruption and protect the public.
Safety controls
Spraying at height in a populated area required clear planning. RAMS were approved before the start, PPE requirements were followed on site, and the team held regular briefings to keep each stage controlled.
Process
The project started with access set-up, site protection and confirmation of the agreed safety measures. The window frames were then cleaned using the RO reach-and-wash system. Once dry, glazing and surrounding surfaces were masked, with additional protection at ground level to manage overspray risk.
The aluminium frames were sprayed using Zinfos 490 through an airless system, with coats applied evenly across both elevations. After application, masking was removed, the site was cleared and the finish was inspected before handover.
Results
The building now has a cleaner, more modern appearance, with a consistent sprayed finish across the aluminium frames. The works were delivered without disruption to neighbouring areas, while the mixed access strategy allowed both elevations to be completed safely and efficiently.
Specialist Aluminium Frame Spraying For Commercial Buildings
Aluminium frame spraying is a cost-effective solution for commercial buildings where existing glazing systems remain structurally sound but no longer meet modern aesthetic or branding requirements. Using specialist coating systems, existing frames can be completely transformed with minimal disruption and long-term durability.
