Check condition before choosing a finish

Commercial shutters may be made from steel, galvanised steel or aluminium, with existing paint or factory-applied coatings. These surfaces need different preparation and compatible products. We assess adhesion, corrosion and contamination before recommending a coating approach.

Painting does not repair a faulty motor, damaged guides or a distorted shutter curtain. Any defects affecting operation need to be addressed by a suitable door specialist before refurbishment. Severe corrosion or damaged sections may also need repair or replacement before coating is worthwhile.

An anti-graffiti finish may be considered for public-facing shutters if it is compatible with the coating system. Its cleaning and maintenance requirements should form part of that decision, rather than assuming every protective finish performs in the same way.

Programme the work around access and security

The shutter may need to remain in an agreed position during preparation, coating and drying.
